Overview & Objectives

The National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) is the largest and oldest nonprofit dedicated to conservation of America’s wild turkey population and preservation of hunting heritage. NWTF tapped Bond Moroch in 2017-18 to help develop a communications strategy revolving around thought leadership and media outreach. The NWTF’s goals were to share news about their conservation and hunting heritage work, while increasing their validity as a leader in the conservation space.

Approach

Bond Moroch developed a PR Action Plan for NWTF, encompassing media relations and proactive pitching, creating social media channels for CEO Becky Humphries, outlining potential award nominations, and outlining speaking opportunities for their CEO. During our six-month contract, Bond aggressively pitched traditional and outdoors media for NWTF inclusion; wrote and placed several bylined articles; setup and managed profiles for Becky Humphries on LinkedIn and Twitter; nominated NWTF staff for awards; and secured several speaking opportunities for Ms. Humphries.

Results & Impact

During our engagement, Bond secured 20 news stories featuring NWTF, including an hour-plus long interview with Ms. Humphries on the popular “MeatEater” podcast, two bylined articles published on The Hill tackling important legislative issues; and turkey hunting features in Mississippi, Charleston and Alabama Living magazines.

Bond also secured three major speaking opportunities for Ms. Humphries at a SHOT Show research breakfast, National Outdoor Recreation Conference and Outdoor Writers Association of America. Finally, Bond launched social media channels for Ms. Humphries on Twitter and LinkedIn, helping to build her national presence and increase her visibility as a thought leader in the conservation and hunting spaces.

As a membership-based organization, NWTF is constantly looking to attract new audiences to its mission. Our PR work directly impacted new members joining NWTF, as seen through comments on the MeatEater social media posts.
